American Innovations (AI) March 30 launched Bullhorn™, designed as a Web-based, low-cost wireless monitoring system for various railroad-related technologies, including crossing guards, switches, detour lights, battery status, event recorders, and track lubricators and heaters.
Bullhorn uses Aeris.net’s MicroBurst™ wireless cellular network to transfer information from remote equipment to a central database, where data is decoded and posted for customers to view or download.
"If there’s a problem with one of your crossing guards out in a remote location, you’ll know about it," said Lee Blakenstein, AI director of sales and marketing, in a prepared statement. "Bullhorn can make remote monitoring available in many situations where, in the past, it’s been highly desirable but cost prohibitive."
Bullhorn also is designed with an automated alarm system, which would notify users through fax, pager and/or email options.
GE Harris Harmon and USX Corp. (formerly Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Co.) plan to monitor crossing guards and related equipment with Bullhorn.
