Port Metro Vancouver and CN have reached a collaborative agreement aimed at improving efficiencies at the port and balancing accountability for each stakeholder in the transportation supply chain.

The Class I, port and other stakeholders agreed to develop mechanisms designed to define, measure, monitor and evaluate each participant’s performance against established benchmarks. The pact also calls for proactive communication on service-related matters and dispute resolution between CN, the port and supply-chain participants on a “commercial basis.”

CN and port officials believe supply chain collaboration is the “best way” to help increase Canada’s commerce with the Asia-Pacific region and boost the flow of Asian containerized imports to North America, according to a prepared statement.

“The agreement will focus stakeholders on working together to achieve continuous improvement in supply chain performance at the port,” said CN President and Chief Executive Officer Claude Mongeau.
