Canadian National Railway Co. recently endowed $400,000 to the University of Illinois to establish the CN Fellowships in Railroad Engineering in the college's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, which offers a railroad engineering program.

"We are making this endowment so that the next generation can apply 21st century solutions to our industry," said Peter Marshall, vice president of CN’s Gulf Division, in a prepared statement.

Each year, CN Fellowships will provide financial support for two graduate students. Marking its 20th year as an Association of American Railroads-affiliated laboratory, the university plans to award the first fellowship in fall.
