Canadian National Railway Co. April 8 announced that 72 Canadian and 42 U.S. chemical shippers won the Class I's 2001 Safe Handling Award.
The 114 winners — including PIONEER, Enersul/Chevron and BP Canada, which won awards for the 10th consecutive year — represent a 28 percent increase in winners compared with 2000, when CN honored 83 shippers.
CN for the past 10 years has presented Safe Handling Awards to chemical customers that meet safe-handling objectives when annually shipping 100 or more hazardous-materials-carrying tank cars.
Meanwhile, CN also presented Corporate Safe Handling Awards to eight companies that met award criteria while annually shipping more than 5,000 hazardous-material carloads: BASF Corp., BP Canada Energy Co., Chemtrade Logistics Inc., Dow Chemicals, Norfalco Sales Inc., PIONEER, Ultramar Ltd. and Williams Energy Services.
