Yesterday, Canadian National Railway Co. announced it has presented 2004 Safe Handling Awards to 86 shippers — 51 in the United States, 34 in Canada and, for the first time, one in Europe.

Since 1992, CN has bestowed the awards, which recognize shippers that load 100 or more hazardous materials cars annually and meet certain safe handling requirements.

“CN has strict standards for handling the dangerous goods entrusted to us by our customers,” said Jerry Boland, CN vice president of sales-industrial products, in a prepared statement. “The awards reward customers for thoroughness and care in handling dangerous goods.”
