Add Canadian National Railway Co. to the list of Class Is offering shippers an online "green" calculator. Yesterday, CN announced it launched a greenhouse gas-emissions calculator at www.cn.ca/GHG_calculator.

Shippers can use the calculator to estimate emissions savings when using CN vs. a truck after entering a shipment's distance and weight.

"The new calculator is a powerful tool demonstrating the significant environmental and energy-saving benefits of using CN," said Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing James Foote in a prepared statement.

Earlier this year, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway introduced online "carbon footprint" calculators.
