CN reaches EJ&E-related mitigation agreement with Elgin

advertisement

CN recently hammered out a voluntary mitigation agreement with the city of Elgin, Ill., that addresses the municipality's concerns about the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Co. (EJ&E) integration.

The pact calls for CN to provide funding for noise mitigation, emergency response training and other measures, and to maintain existing quiet zones.

The Class I now has voluntary mitigation agreements in place with 16 municipalities, which are home to more than 50 percent of the population that resides along EJ&E lines in Illinois and Indiana.

CN expects to integrate the EJ&E into its networks within three years. The transaction affects 33 communities in the two states.
