Canadian National Railway Co. recently honored four short lines’ rail-car reporting performance at the Class I’s annual short-line conference in Montreal.

CN presented awards to Quebec Railway Corp. for best overall reporting performance; the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad and Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad Corp. for most consistent reporting performance, and Tomahawk Railway for most improved reporting performance.

“Accurate, timely reporting of the location and status of freight cars by our short-line partners to CN and the Association of American Railroads is critically important to CN’s precision railroading model,” said CN Executive Vice President of Operations Ed Harris in a prepared statement. “This information is also vital to customers who need to track the progress of their shipments across the railway network.”

CN connects with more than 75 short lines, which originate or terminate about 25 percent of the Class I’s traffic.
