Canadian Pacific plans to reorganize operations by October’s end to boost efficiency and improve customer service.
The Class I will restructure 11 operations and engineering regions to six to respond more quickly to local operating issues. The six regions will be British Columbia; Alberta/Saskatchewan; Manitoba/Northern Ontario; Southern Ontario/Quebec; U.S. West; and U.S. East. CP expects to soon name general managers to head each region. The restructuring might involve job cuts, according to the railroad.
“It is part of an overall focus on efficiency that includes running longer trains and greater asset utilization,” said CP spokesman Mike LoVecchio in an email.
