Canadian Pacific Railway is seeking short-line purchase proposals for three low-density branch lines in southern Saskatchewan: a 25.4 mile-line in the Arcola Subdivision between Redevers and Carlyle; 11.9-mile line in the Burstall Subdivision between Fox Valley and Ingebright Lake; and 2.1-mile line in the Rocanville Subdivision near Rocanville.


The lines have supported little or no traffic the past three years because a local mine and several grain elevators either closed or stopped shipping by rail, according to a prepared statement.


Interested short lines must submit a written expression of interest to CPR by July 31 in accordance with Canada Transportation Act guidelines.


If a purchase agreement isn't reached within six months of July 31, CPR can
offer the lines to provincial and municipal governments, which would have 30 days to consider a purchase. If no sale agreement is reached, CPR can cease operating the lines.


In August 2001, CPR identified the lines as discontinuance candidates under an updated three-year network plan.
