CSX obtains software to decrease computer-network downtime
advertisement
CSX Corp. recently contracted SMARTS to provide InCharge™ Service Assurance Manager and InCharge™ Availability Manager real-time software designed to ensure computer-network reliability by continually monitoring platforms, and identifying and correcting disruptions.
CSX plans to use the software on its Next Generation Dispatch Network, which controls 1,700 trains' dispatching and operating functions. The network includes more than 2,000 routers, each with multiple connectivity points and redundancy layers.
"Any outage of our core network can be a problem, as it immediately impacts the timely flow of our trains," said Dan Pinkley, CSX Technology director of network control, in a prepared statement. "For this reason, we need a management system with the ability to identify and correct potential threats before they cause an outage."
