Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Yesterday, CSX Corp. announced it will pre-pay about $600,000 in property taxes to Mississippi’s Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties to provide needed cash to the storm-affected area.
The Class I plans to do the same in affected Louisiana and Alabama counties where it has operations.
CSX also is providing financial assistance to employees in the Gulf Coast Region. The railroad will cover 300 employees’ salaries and benefits through September and pay them an additional $1,000 for urgent needs; and provide temporary work assignments for affected employees at other CSX locations, as well as travel and meal allowances, and a monthly $1,250 living stipend.
