CSX to provide proxy materials online

CSX Corp. has found a way to save a small forest of trees and space in landfills. The Class I is providing proxy materials for its 2009 annual shareholders meeting online rather than paper-only.
Last year, CSX distributed about 190,000 annual reports. This year, the railroad will mail copies by request only and is posting the same information — including the annual report and a proxy statement — on its Web site. CSX expects to reduce printing by more than 25 million pages.
The change "represents a small, but important, example of our environmental leadership,” said CSX Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Ward in his annual letter to shareholders.
The annual shareholders meeting will be held May 6 at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards.
