CSX Intermodal recently received the 2008 Intermodal Carrier of the Year award from Landstar System Inc., which provides various transportation and logistics services, including intermodal.

The award recognizes a transportation provider's on-time service, equipment availability and condition, ease of doing business, sales representation and customer service responsiveness, and damage prevention. Landstar surveyed its independent agents who handle intermodal shipments to determine a winner.

Meanwhile, Norfolk Southern Corp. handed out Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Awards for 2008 to 35 chemical shippers.

Presented annually the past 13 years, the awards recognize companies that ship more than 1,000 carloads of hazardous materials without an incident. Together, the winners safely handled about 98,000 carloads.
