CSXT, TRANSFLO launch LPG gas distribution service

On Oct. 9, CSX Transportation and TRANSFLO Corp. introduced a liquefied petroleum-gas (LPG) distribution service, under which CSXT moves flammable liquids using TRANSFLO’s new portable rail-truck transfer equipment.

CSXT plans to offer the BTU Rail Direct service to propane and butane shippers at select sites within TRANSFLO's 81-terminal, 23-state network.

"The transfer equipment provides the customer investment-free flexibility to develop previously inaccessible markets," said Mike Ohorodnik, CSXT director-chemicals business development, in a prepared statement, adding that the service provides shippers a distribution alternative to congested pipeline terminals.

CSXT and TRANSFLO officials believe the service would increase LPG moves on rail but not compete with traditional rail destinations.
