Rail News: Rail Industry Trends

CSXT e-newsletter designed to keep customers in the electronic loop

At CSX Transportation, the "ease of doing business" evolution continues.

On Sept. 8, the railroad issued "CSX eBusiness News," a quarterly newsletter designed to keep customers in the railroad’s electronic loop — whether it’s information on new business tools or tips on how to use existing ones.

"Since shipping processes and transaction tools can be very detailed, we're focusing on making the exchange of accurate information with customers simpler and faster," according to a statement published in the railroad’s third-quarter electronic missive. "Our goal is to automate and simplify, creating 'preferred' methods for transactions."

At CSXT, the "preferred methods for conducting business" include "ShipCSX," a "secure transaction" Web site; Electronic Data Interchange, through which information is exchanged between customer and CSXT computer systems; and "touch-tone" or voice-activated phone systems.

The current newsletter includes features on shipment visibility, shipping instructions for ShipCSX, a new method to release empty rail cars and transaction requirement details.
