CSX Transportation has ordered 75 BELTPACK® locomotive remote-control (LRC) systems from CANAC Inc., and expects to take delivery of the units by year end.
"Remote-control technology continues to be a key factor in improving the safety of our yard and industrial service, as well as making our operations more efficient," said Mike Cantrell, CSXT senior vice president-advanced operations technologies, in a prepared statement.
Once the order is filled, every North American Class I will be using BELTPACKs — Class Is already are using more than 500 of the LRC units, CANAC said.
In December 2001, CSXT placed an initial LRC order with Cattron-Theimeg Inc. for 100 ACCUSPEED™ remote-control units.
