Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Today, CSX Transportation announced it's been ranked the top rail carrier on Waste News’ Hauling and Disposal Ranking's annual list.
The railroad ranked 20th out of 100 firms on the list, which ranks transportation companies according to revenue generated from hauling, disposing and transferring waste.
"Shipping waste by rail is a market that is growing at a strong pace," said Henry Connors, CSXT director-emerging markets unit, in a prepared statement. "We continue to see opportunities … to convert these shipments off of the highway onto the rails."
CSXT provides waste-hauling services for municipalities, waste companies and various industries, including steel, automotive, paper and chemical. In the second quarter, the Class I increased waste revenue and carloads 6 percent and 9 percent, respectively, compared with second-quarter 2003.
