CSX Transportation has named 64 shippers as winners of its 15th annual Chemical Safety Excellence Award, which recognizes shippers’ rail-car maintenance, safety and tank-car loading efforts.

To be eligible for the award, a company must ship 600 or more cars on CSXT annually and register no non-accidental releases during a calendar year. Shippers include companies in the chemical, fertilizer, emerging markets, agriculture and metals merchandise sectors. Last year, CSXT also honored 64 shippers.

"Throughout the challenging economic environment, these winners have remained focused on the safe loading and unloading of their fleet, and maintaining their fleet in safe working condition,” said Dean Piacente, CSXT vice president of chemicals and fertilizer, in a prepared statement.

Meanwhile, BNSF Railway Co. has become the first recipient of the Texas National Guard's Texas Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve Prominence Award, which honors companies for their continuous outstanding support to employees serving in the guard and reserve.

BNSF previously received other military-related honors, including the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, Pro Patria Award and more than one Above and Beyond Award. In addition, a number of the railroad’s employees have received Patriot Awards.
