CSXT selects US&S to upgrade traffic-control, dispatch system

CSX Transportation recently contracted Union Switch & Signal Corp. to design, implement, integrate and install a "next generation" centralized traffic-control (CTC) and dispatch system at the railroad's Kenneth C. Dufford Transportation Center in Jacksonville, Fla.

US&S plans to migrate functions from the original dispatch system — which the supplier installed for CSXT in 1988 — to a new computer-aided system in four phases.

Under phases one and two, US&S will migrate CTC and dark-territory control applications from the current VAX-based to new Unix-based system.

During phases three and four, the supplier plans to migrate train message/bulletin and train-sheet functions.
