CSXT set to speed up northern Georgia trains
advertisement
CSX Transportation May 8 announced plans to increase freight- and passenger-train speeds through portions of Georgia counties Dekalb, Fayette and Fulton beginning May 22.
The railroad over a two-week period would boost speeds in 10 mph increments. By May 29, most trains would increase speed from 25 mph to 45 mph; Atlanta-area trains, from 25 mph to 40 mph.
During the past year, CSXT improved track and upgraded highway-rail grade-crossing warning devices in the counties to support faster trains.
Railroad officials believe the speed increase will help minimize motorists' crossing delays and improve operating efficiency.
