CSX Transportation Oct. 2 announced that, to date, its Tampa-based fertilizer team to date has increased revenue nearly 10 percent compared with a similar 2001 period.
The railroad's moved about 26,000 more fertilizer-product carloads compared with last year. CSXT annually moves about 500,000 carloads of inputs and finished fertilizer products including potash, nitrogens and ammoniated phosphates, making the Class I the largest U.S. rail carrier of fertilizer products, said Bruce Curtis, CSXT director of marketing-phosphate and fertilizer, in a prepared statement.
The team, part of CSXT's Florida Business Unit, developed products and services to help fertilizer shippers reach new North American markets.
"Our team is working closer than ever with our customers to help understand their needs and reduce their logistics costs," said Curtis.
The railroad also offers fertilizer customers its TransFlo service, a network of rail-served transload terminals designed to help non-rail served customers reach new markets, and ShipCSX, a Web-based tool customers to may use to electronically order and track rail cars, and pay freight bills.
