CSX Corp. recently obtained its first LEED® green building certification from the U.S. Green Business Council.

Short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, LEED pertains to the certification of CSX’s newly constructed 22,500-square-foot division headquarters in Florence, S.C. The facility features 32 offices, a large conference room, and fitness and dispatch centers.

The building also includes a 6,200-square-foot command center with a raised supervisor's platform and technology equipment for 10 dispatchers. To obtain certification, the building needed to meet certain design and construction requirements stipulated in the LEED for New Construction Registered Project Checklist.

“Reducing our carbon footprint is a major focus of our everyday operations, and that translates to constructing facilities that are environmentally friendly,” said CSX Director of Facility Design W. Wayne Bostic in a prepared statement.
