On Friday, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) announced the 2010 David W. Fries Award was awarded to CSX Corp. Director of Insurance Walter Tyler to honor his “exemplary” risk management efforts and practices in the rail industry. The award was presented at the Railroad Insurance Management Association’s (RIMA) recent annual meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
Tyler began his 32-year railroad career with the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad before joining CSX in 1992. He currently serves as president of CSX Insurance Co. in South Carolina.
“Throughout his long career, Walt has consistently applied innovation and superior effort to every aspect of his work,” said RIMA President Bill Evans in a prepared statement. “He stands as an example of hard work and dedication to all of us in the insurance and risk management community.”
Sponsored by RIMA, an association of railroad risk managers that is overseen by an elected board and administered by the AAR, the David W. Fries Award was established to honor the late David Fries, who served as director of risk management for Norfolk Southern Railway and a past-president and officer of RIMA.
“His dedication to the field of risk management and risk issues in the rail industry serves as the foundation for establishing this award,” RIMA officials said.
