Last week, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) completed a $482.6 million renovation of the Blue Line’s 54th/Cermak branch.
Since work began on the 105-year-old branch in summer 2001, CTA has renovated eight stations, replaced five miles of track, ties, foot walks and support structures, and installed a new signal communications system.
The renovated stations feature benches, overhead heaters, improved lighting and canopies on platforms, as well elevators, escalators, wheelchair turnstiles, TTY telephones and Braille signs.
On Jan. 1, the authority added weekend service on the branch.
