CTA notifies employees of layoff plans

As part of a 60-day notification requirement, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) sent letters to 1,087 employees last week warning they could be laid off within the next couple of months.

The authority plans to cut jobs if the state doesn’t approve additional funding later this month for Chicago-area public transportation, according to a prepared statement.

Beginning in January, CTA would eliminate 200 to 250 non-operating positions and cut service — which would eliminate another 1,000 positions — if the authority doesn't receive the additional state funds.
