Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Yesterday, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) approved funding for the second design phase of a rehabilitation project at the Red Line’s historic Wilson Station.
The $2.3 million phase brings the total cost of the design contract — awarded in January 2005 to joint venture Wilson Transit Associates — to $3.5 million. Second-phase design is scheduled to be complete in 2007; the third and final phase of design will begin once funding becomes available.
The project includes adding modern amenities to the station, which was built in 1900, and making the facility fully accessible to passengers with disabilities while preserving historic features.
