Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) plans soon to make energy-efficient upgrades at seven stations to reduce utility costs $445,500 annually.
Funded by a $2.5 million Intergovernmental Loan Agreement between CTA, City of Chicago Department of Environment (DOE) and Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), the upgrades include lighting retrofits to improve electricity consumption, and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning improvements to reduce electrical and natural-gas consumption.
ComEd provides loans to city and sister agencies for energy-efficient retrofits, DOE administers the loans and agencies repay them through energy-cost savings.
CTA recently conducted energy-efficiency audits at several facilities to determine priorities.
Based on projected savings, CTA would repay the loan in $250,000 increments during a 10-year period, beginning in 2005.
