The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) recently awarded a $3.5 million contract to planning and engineering firm Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas Inc. to conduct an alternatives analysis for proposed extensions to the Red, Orange and Yellow subway lines.

Required as part of the Federal Transit Administration’s New Starts process, the study will examine all available transit options for the corridor. The consultant will conduct the study during the next few years.

CTA has proposed extending the Red Line to 130th Street, Orange Line to Ford City Mall and Yellow Line to Westfield Shoppingtown Old Orchard shopping center.
