Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Yesterday, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) approved $674 million in funding for 35 projects, including $315 million for the downtown L.A.-to-Culver City Exposition light-rail line.
A state budget stalemate had put the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority project — construction for which began last fall — on hold. The state already had set aside $250 million for the line, bringing the total amount in the coffers to about $300 million, enough to complete about half of the 8.6-mile first phase.
Scheduled to be complete in 2010, the $640 million project’s first phase also includes eight stations. Phase Two, which is currently undergoing an environmental impact assessment, would extend the line to Santa Monica by 2015.
