On Sept. 15, the state of California and Union Pacific Railroad began a $24 million project designed to soon reduce transit times for passengers along the Capitol Corridor between Sacramento and the Bay area.
UP will add a second line of track to the Yolo Causeway, reducing some transit times by up to 10 minutes, according to a prepared statement.
The state of California is funding $23 million of the project; UP, which is in charge of construction, is contributing $1 million.
The project is expected to be complete by October’s end.
The Capitol Corridor is managed by the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority, a partnership between six local transit agencies. Bay Area Rapid Transit provides day-to-day management of the service, which operates with Amtrak trains.
