Last week, Caltrain’s board adopted a $76.7 million fiscal-year 2006 operating budget, which will increase 3 percent increase compared with last year’s budget and raise fares.
To offset a $13.6 million deficit, the agency will hike fares an average of 17.5 percent on July 1. In addition, Peninsula Joint Powers Board member agencies San Francisco Municipal Railway, San Mateo County Transit District, and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will increase their contributions by 3 percent.
At its July meeting, the board will consider a $77.6 million capital budget.
