Caltrain to open reconstructed Lawrence station

On March 5, Caltrain and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority plan to unveil the rebuilt Lawrence Caltrain Station.

Part of Caltrain’s South CTX project, the new station includes passing tracks to accommodate Baby Bullet express train service, an underground tunnel, new ticket vending machine shelters, a visual messaging and public address system, and improved lighting and landscaping.

Scheduled to be complete in mid-2004, the $110 million CTX project includes rebuilding track, constructing sidings, improving grade crossings and installing centralized train control.

The station reconstruction was funded by state and federal grants, and Santa Clara County Measure B funds. Approved by voters in 1996, Measure B is a nine-year, half-cent sales tax measure designed to fund county-wide transportation improvement projects.
