advertisement
Yesterday, the Canadian government announced plans to provide funding to upgrade “high priority” grade crossings nationwide.
Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the government will provide about $11 million for the Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which calls for upgrading 155 crossings in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan.
The government will work with railroads, provinces and municipalities to perform safety assessments at crossings in order to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities caused by crossing accidents.
