Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Canadian coal shipper Grande Cache Coal Corp. recently reached agreements with Canadian National Railway Co. and Alberta RailNet Inc. to move metallurgical coal from the Smoky River Coalfield in west-central Alberta to port loading service provider Westshore Terminals Ltd. in Roberts Bank, British Columbia. Expiring March 31, 2007, the CN agreement includes annual contract rates.
The multi-year rail and port loading contracts will enable Grande Cache to access export metallurgical coal markets, company officials believe.
"We are focused on meeting the strong demand for our coal products," said Grande Cache President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Stan in a prepared statement. "CN has historically transported coal from this property and Westshore provides access to the largest bulk commodities port on the West Coast, where all of our anticipated customers currently send vessels."
