The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) recently received a $100 million grant from the Canadian government — one of the largest one-time federal reimbursements of public transit funding, according to a prepared statement.

TTC will use the proceeds to purchase 78 subway cars and 212 hybrid buses.

The installment is part of an overall $350 million federal funding commitment to the agency through the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund. The funds will help TTC improve subway tracks and tunnels, escalators, elevators, fire ventilation and radio systems, as well as repair or replace streetcar infrastructure.
