A short line and passenger railroad are the latest recipients of the Railway Association of Canada’s (RAC) annual safety awards.

The association recently presented 2007 safety awards to the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway in the freight-rail category and VIA Rail Canada Inc. in the passenger-rail category.

RAC recognized the 357-mile short line’s workers for modifying a track maintenance vehicle in order to carry an injured worker to medical care, and VIA Rail’s employees for developing a risk assessment database designed to identify injury-causing hazards and implement protective measures.

RAC represents the interests of 60 Canadian freight and passenger railroads.
