Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Railway Association of Canada (RAC) recently created two annual awards to recognize members’ efforts to promote safety and protect the environment.
The RAC Environment and Safety awards will help motivate the rail industry to adopt better working conditions and operating practices, and to increase the public’s awareness of railroads’ safety practices and environmentally friendly initiatives, said Bruce Burrows, RAC president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
All member railroads are eligible for the awards, which will be presented in December. Railroads can submit an application to the association for either or both categories to nominate a safety or environmental initiative implemented by the company, employees, customers, suppliers or other stakeholders.
RAC officials will gauge each nomination’s originality and cost effectiveness, and determine how easily other railroads could implement an initiative.
