Canadian short line ratifies UTU agreement

RailAmerica Inc. subsidiary Goderich-Exeter Railway Co. (GEXR), based in Kitchener, Ontario, April 7 ratified an agreement with United Transportation Union, according to the union's Web site.
The agreement governs pay and working conditions between Jan. 1, 2002, and Dec. 31, 2005, for the 159-mile short line's conductors, engineers, diesel machinists/electricians and car inspectors.
GEXR's UTU-represented workers will receive 13.5 percent wage increases over four years; better vacation allotments; enhanced bereavement and sick-leave pay; training allowances; and benefit-package improvements, including better dental and eye-care coverage.
