Quest Computer Consultants Inc. April 12 launched Geometrix 3.1, a rail-car tracking and fleet-management system designed to enable shippers and receivers to access and manage fleet and product data.
Geometrix users would access car information through a small software bundle that's locally installed on their computers and tied to Quest's secure, off-site servers. Users retrieve from the servers small amounts of data that's stored on their desktops, which Quest officials believe can reduce downtime caused by lost connections and decrease processing time.
The system is designed to process shipment and rail-car location data 24/7 — from one car to a group of cars — and enable users to add or subtract cars from active fleets. Geometrix also establishes trend graphs that can prompt the system to issue warning flags when detecting unusual data, alerting users of potential problems.
Calgary, Alberta-based Quest plans to bill users monthly, based on the customer's total Geometrix users and number of cars traced at a time.
