Cattron-Theimeg, CANAC debate patent infringement through lawsuits

Cattron-Theimeg Inc. Feb. 15 announced it had filed a lawsuit Feb. 7 against CANAC Inc. in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania stating that Cattron's locomotive remote-control (LRC) system doesn't infringe on CANAC patents.
CANAC Feb. 1 had filed a lawsuit against Cattron in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia claiming Cattron's LRC system infringes on CANAC's U.S. Patent Nos. 5,511,749 and 5,685,507 relating to LRCs.
Cattron officials believe the company's LRC system — including its ACCUSPEED system — "does not violate any valid claim of either CANAC patent as properly interpreted," according to a prepared statement.
Both companies recently obtained LRC orders from U.S. Class Is; Cattron, a 100-unit order from CSX Transportation, and CANAC, a 50-unit order from Kansas City Southern.
