advertisement
Yesterday, the Charlotte City Council decided to exercise a final option with Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. to purchase another four light-rail vehicles for the Charlotte Area Transit System’s (CATS) LYNX Blue Line.
Under the original purchase agreement, CATS purchased 16 vehicles and retained an option to buy 25 more. To be delivered during the next two years, the final four vehicles will be funded through a $15.2 million grant the agency expects to receive from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Since opening last November, the Blue Line has exceeded ridership expectations, carrying more than 1.9 million passengers.
