Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. recently shipped the last of 16 light-rail vehicles to the Charlotte Area Transit System.
The cars will operate on the agency’s LYNX Blue Line, which is scheduled to open in fall. The 9.6-mile, 15-station line will run from downtown Charlotte, N.C., to Interstate 485.
The Siemens S70 light-rail vehicles can travel at speeds up to 65 mp. The 236-passenger-capacity cars were manufactured and assembled at the builders’ newly expanded manufacturing facility in Sacramento, Calif.
