The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) recently opened the South Boulevard Light Rail Facility.

The 92,000-square-foot building will house rail maintenance and operations staff, as well as the rail and bus operations control centers. The facility also features a rail yard, where CATS will store its 16 LYNX Blue Line light-rail vehicles.

Scheduled to open in fall, the LYNX Blue Line is CATS’ first rail line. The 9.6-mile light-rail corridor will run north from Interstate 485 at South Boulevard to Center City Charlotte.
