Chemical producer to build tank-car equipping/repair facility in Indiana

Earlier this week, Reagent Chemical and Research Inc. announced it selected a site in a Knox, Ind., industrial park for a new tank-car equipping and repair facility.
A hydrochloric acid producer and North America's largest private owner of rubber-lined rail cars, Reagent Chemical expects to open the facility in summer 2010. The company had considered other sites in Louisiana, Texas and West Virginia, but chose the Indiana site primarily because Starke County and the city of Knox built a lead track through the industrial park in 2004, said Reagent Chemical Vice President Brian Skeuse in a prepared statement.
Reagent Chemical plans to construct two buildings totaling 36,500 square feet and build 6,155 lineal feet of rail. The city agreed to fund the addition of 991 lineal feet of new rail onto the lead track in the park.
Reagent Chemical will use the facility to equip new tank cars with various components, and maintain and repair its existing fleet. The company uses the cars to transport hydrochloric acid between its distribution facilities and customers’ plants.
