Chicago's Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) recently awarded a $150,000 grant to the Developing Communities Project Inc. and Nathalie Voorhees Center for Neighborhood and Community Improvement at the University of Illinois-Chicago to study the Chicago Transit Authority's proposed Red Line extension from 95th Street to 130th Street.
The study will identify the impacts and benefits that mass transit will have on housing, economic and workforce development, and the environment in the area's low- and mixed-income communities.
The grant is being provided through RTA's Community Planning Program, which provides funding and planning assistance for projects that benefit both the authority's transit system and local communities.
