The Chinese Ministry of Railways (MOR) recently awarded a multi-million-dollar contract to Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) to provide railroad inspection products based on the center’s Trackside Acoustic Detection System (TADS™) technology.

TTCI will supervise equipment installation, provide software and oversee acoustic detector performance. TADS is designed to inspect journal bearings and other rail-car components. MOR plans to install TADS on its busiest rail lines.

In 2003, TTCI installed a demonstration TADS unit on a MOR coal line. Since then, the center has installed two TADS for the Tibetan Railway and 24 units for MOR. By year end, MOR will have installed or taken delivery of 28 TADS.

"During the demonstration test, we found more than 130 bearings with severe defects," said Liu Ruiyang, director of MOR’s equipment department, in a prepared statement.
