The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is taking more steps to increase rail system security.

The board recently approved a contract for A4S Security Inc. to install ShiftWatch® mobile video surveillance and facilities surveillance solutions in 40 light-rail vehicles and on 18 platforms. The contract — which is not to exceed $1.3 million — is subject to final negotiation.

GCRTA also recently added three bomb-sniffing dogs to its transit police force. The agency purchased the $5,000 German Shepherds — named Cantor, Max and Timon – with federal security funds.
