Sierra Railroad Co. and Yolo Shortline Railroad Co. recently filed a joint exemption notice with Surface Transportation Board seeking to merge.

Under an agreement, 49-mile Sierra Railroad would acquire control of 27-mile Yolo Shortline Railroad by purchasing the stock of Yolo parent Midland Railroad Enterprises Corp.

The two short lines — located about 100 miles apart — hope to complete the transaction June 30.

Based in Oakdale, Calif., Sierra Railroad provides freight- and dinner-train services; based in Woodland, Calif., Yolo Shortline Railroad operates freight and excursion trains, and provides railroad design and maintenance services.
