Tomorrow at 1 p.m. EDT, Progressive Railroading will present “Weighing the Options: Evaluating Infrastructure Needs for Heavier, Longer and Faster Trains,” a free webcast on the impact of train speed, weight and length on rail infrastructure and equipment.

Railroads are redoubling their efforts to increase train length and speed to maximize their return on investments and boost profits. But by operating longer, heavier or faster trains, they’re risking significant wear and tear on track and costly equipment.

Sponsored by Pandrol USA, Plasser American Corp., Unitrac Railroad Materials Inc. and Loram Maintenance of Way Inc., the webcast will review the implications for track maintenance planning — especially as rail traffic rebounds and available track time shrinks — and technologies to consider that can help reduce stress on track and equipment. Presenters include Union Pacific Railroad Senior Assistant Vice President of Engineering Bill Van Trump and Transportation Technology Center Inc. Vice President of Commercial Programs Al Reinschmidt.
